Smile Design

Smile Design is a comprehensive analysis that evaluates aesthetic criteria such as teeth, gums, lips, and their relationships with each other.

Through digital smile design, a three-dimensional view of the face and the inside of the mouth is created, incorporating radiological images when necessary. This analysis ensures the integrity of the mentioned criteria and allows for the design of a personalized smile for the individual.

Factors like lip level, tooth length, gum level, tooth color, tooth arrangement, the harmony between lips and teeth during smiling, and the smile line, individually and in relation to each other, hold great importance in conducting an aesthetic smile analysis.

How is Smile Design done?

During Smile Design, two aspects are evaluated: white aesthetics, which refers to the aesthetics of the area formed by the teeth, and pink aesthetics, which pertains to the aesthetics of the gum area. Firstly, it is assessed on a photograph how high the gum level should be and which teeth should be included in the design. Then, the levels of teeth, gum, and bone are examined both clinically and radiographically to complete the treatment plan.

What Treatments Does Smile Design Include?

Since everyone’s smile design needs are different, the procedures will vary accordingly. Different treatments can be applied in smile aesthetics based on individual preferences and needs. While one patient may only need one of these treatments, another may require multiple procedures to achieve the desired outcome. Some of these procedures include:

  • Porcelain crowns (caps),
  • Zirconium crowns,
  • Laminate veneers,
  • Gingivectomy for gum aesthetics,
  • Teeth whitening (laser bleaching in cases of dark tooth color),
  • Scaling or root planing (tartar removal),
  • Pink Aesthetics (Gum Aesthetics),
  • Orthodontic Treatment (braces for correcting tooth misalignment),
  • Dental Implant and prosthesis applications (in cases of missing or no teeth),
  • Root canal and filling treatment,
  • Lip, facial, and jaw shaping.

Is it necessary to cut and crown teeth in smile design procedures?

It is not always necessary to cut and crown teeth for smile design. In many cases, aesthetic expectations can be met through simpler and more conservative methods like composite laminates, bonding, recontouring, or teeth whitening.
