Root canal treatment is a procedure performed when the nerve, also known as the pulp, has been damaged beyond its ability to self-repair. The pulp can be defined as the innermost part of the tooth that provides vitality to the tooth. Typically, fractured teeth or deep cavities can lead to inflammation of the pulp. If the damaged or inflamed nerve is not removed from the affected area, it can cause serious problems such as tooth loss due to infection in the tooth and surrounding tissues. After the removal of the pulp tissue or nerve, the root canal space must be cleaned, shaped, and filled with canal filling materials. The entirety of these procedures is referred to as root canal treatment.
